Samsung halts Android 15 One UI 7 update after serious bugs surface. Find out what went wrong, which phones are affected & when it’ll be fixed.

Samsung Puts the Brakes on Android 15 Rollout Over Major Bugs

Just days after Samsung kicked off its global rollout of the much-anticipated One UI 7 update based on Android 15, the tech giant has unexpectedly pulled the plug. The update, which was being pushed to flagship devices like the Galaxy S24, Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6, has now been suspended due to what appears to be a serious batch of bugs.

Samsung hasn't officially explained what went wrong—but widespread user reports suggest that the new software build is plagued with issues that go far beyond cosmetic glitches. Let’s break down what happened, what it means for users, and when you can expect a fix.

What Went Wrong with One UI 7?

According to several online forums and leak reports, the initial One UI 7 update created some alarming issues for early adopters:

  • Phone Unlock Failures: Galaxy S24 users in South Korea noticed that their devices would intermittently refuse to unlock, even with correct credentials.
  • Secure Folder Breach: A particularly disturbing bug exposed photos stored inside Samsung's Secure Folder by showing them in auto-generated photo Stories. These Stories were accessible outside the privacy container, completely defeating the purpose of the “secure” feature.

These problems were serious enough for Samsung to scrub the One UI 7 files from its update servers entirely, which strongly implies an internal emergency halt.

Samsung's Official Response: Vague But Reassuring

When approached for comment, Samsung’s official statement was brief:

“The One UI 7 rollout schedule is being updated to ensure the best possible experience. The new timing and availability will be shared shortly.”

In classic corporate fashion, the term "shortly" was used without clarifying whether that means hours, days, or even weeks. This has left many users wondering when their phones will finally see the promised upgrade.

Samsung is known for offering up to seven years of OS support, but it’s also known for taking its time tailoring Android with its own interface layer. The delay in delivering Android 15, despite it being available from Google for over seven months, is partly due to Samsung's integration of Galaxy AI features, custom UI enhancements, and proprietary apps.

Which Phones Are Affected?

So far, the One UI 7 pause affects the following devices:

  • Samsung Galaxy S24 Series
  • Galaxy Z Fold 6
  • Galaxy Z Flip 6

These devices originally launched with Android 14 and One UI 6, so the update was expected to bring them up to speed with the newer Galaxy S25 series, which ships with One UI 7 pre-installed.

Interestingly, Galaxy S25 users are unaffected, as their software already includes the polished version of One UI 7—suggesting Samsung knew which builds were stable and which were not.

Why Android 15 Matters and Why This Delay Hurts

Android 15 isn’t just another yearly refresh. The update comes with significant under-the-hood performance improvements, stronger privacy features, and adaptive AI integrations that Samsung builds upon for its Galaxy ecosystem.

In One UI 7, users were especially excited for:

  • The AI-powered Now Bar, which enhances multitasking and search.
  • Advanced AI writing tools for notes, messages, and web input.
  • A redesigned camera UI, giving users more control and customization.
  • Subtle but welcome tweaks across the system UI, animations, and battery optimization.

With the delay, millions of Galaxy owners are missing out on these features—while Android 16 is already preparing to debut in June 2025. That puts Samsung a full version behind for many of its top-tier devices.

Is This Normal for Samsung?

Sadly, yes, sort of...

Samsung’s software rollout history is a mixed bag. While the company has dramatically improved its update timelines in recent years (thanks to partnerships with Google and Qualcomm), it still trails behind Pixel phones in speed and reliability. The added complexity of Galaxy AI, DeX, Secure Folder, and its massive list of device variants makes things more complicated.

But halting a major software update entirely? That’s rare, even for Samsung. This suggests that the bugs were deemed high risk, potentially impacting security, device functionality, or user privacy.

What Should Galaxy Users Do Now?

Here’s what Samsung users can do while they wait for the revised One UI 7 rollout:

  • Avoid installing leaked or unofficial builds of One UI 7. These may not include the latest fixes and could brick your phone or void your warranty.
  • Back up your data regularly, especially if you’re using Secure Folder or handling sensitive content.
  • Watch for official announcements via Samsung Members app or Samsung Newsroom.
  • Keep an eye on Twitter/X accounts like @UniverseIce, which often share real-time updates and leaks.

Final Thoughts

Samsung’s One UI 7 update pause serves as a reminder that even tech giants stumble. While the company is staying quiet on details, user reports make it clear this wasn’t a minor hiccup, it was a major flaw that could compromise both device usability and user privacy.

That said, Samsung tends to be quick with damage control once an issue reaches critical mass. Expect a fixed version of One UI 7 to roll out within the next few weeks, potentially first to the S24 line, then the foldables.

Until then, Samsung users can only sit tight and hope that "shortly" really means soon.
